What Is the University Pathway Program?
The University Pathway Program is an innovative academic model that gives students two distinct options while studying at Alexander Academy.
Stream 1: Traditional High School (Grades 10–12)
Students follow the standard BC curriculum and graduate with the British Columbia Dogwood Diploma, one of the most recognized secondary school credentials in the world.
- ✓ Standard BC secondary school program
- ✓ Dogwood Diploma graduation pathway
- ✓ Strong academic preparation for university
- ✓ Structured and supportive school environment
- ✓ A clear path toward post-secondary study
Stream 2: University Pathway (Dual Credit Model) NEW
Students complete their BC Graduation Diploma while simultaneously earning transferable university credits through Alexander College.
- ✓ Earn high school and university credits at the same time
- ✓ Transferable first-year university coursework
- ✓ Access to the BC Transfer System
- ✓ Earlier exposure to post-secondary academics
- ✓ Begin university while still in high school
Why This Matters
The University Pathway Program is designed for families seeking a clearer, more efficient, and more strategic route to university.
Lower Upfront Costs
A more efficient pathway can help students and families manage the early cost of higher education more strategically.
Earlier Academic Acceleration
Students build momentum sooner by starting transferable university-level learning before graduating from high school.
Stronger University Profiles
Dual-credit study can strengthen academic readiness and help students stand out in competitive university admissions.
Recognized Credentials
Students earn a recognized Canadian high school diploma while gaining real post-secondary academic experience.
Transferable Credits
University credits earned through Alexander College can be transferred to universities across British Columbia and beyond.
Reduced Academic Risk
By adjusting to university expectations earlier, students can enter post-secondary study with greater confidence and preparation.
A Smarter Transition to University
Many students struggle in their first year of university because of the sudden jump in academic expectations. The University Pathway Program helps reduce that risk by introducing students to university-level coursework earlier within a structured high school setting.
