Introducing the University Pathway Program (UP): Two Streams. One School. Unlimited University Options.

Written by Alexander Academy in News and updates on February 10, 2026

For many students and families, the journey to university can feel overwhelming. Choosing the right high school, planning for academic success, managing costs, and preparing for international study all require careful decision-making.

At Alexander Academy and Alexander College, we have designed a solution that makes the pathway to university clearer, more efficient, and more strategic.

Welcome to the University Pathway Program (UP) — an innovative “Academy Within an Academy” model that allows motivated students to complete their British Columbia high school diploma while earning real, transferable first-year university credits at the same time.

What Is the University Pathway Program?

The University Pathway Program (UP) is a dual-track academic model that gives students the choice between:

Stream 1: Traditional High School (Grades 10–12)

Students follow the standard BC curriculum and graduate with the British Columbia Dogwood Diploma, one of the most recognized secondary school credentials in the world.

Stream 2: University Pathway (Dual Credit Model)

Students complete their BC Graduation Diploma while simultaneously earning transferable university credits through Alexander College. These credits can be transferred to universities across British Columbia — and beyond — through the BC Transfer System.

This means students don’t just prepare for university — they begin university while still in high school.

Why This Matters

The global education landscape is changing. Families are looking for:

  • Lower upfront study costs
  • Earlier academic acceleration
  • Stronger university admission profiles
  • Clear immigration and long-term study pathways
  • Reduced academic risk

The University Pathway Program addresses all of these priorities.

Students gain:

  • A recognized Canadian high school diploma
  • Real post-secondary academic experience
  • Transferable university credits
  • A structured, supportive learning environment
  • Greater confidence entering university

Who Is the Program Designed For?

The UP program is ideal for students who:

  • Are academically motivated and ready for advanced coursework
  • Want to stand out in competitive university admissions
  • Plan to study long-term in Canada
  • Want to reduce total time and cost toward a university degree
  • Prefer a supportive high school environment while transitioning into university-level academics

A Smarter Transition to University

Many students struggle during their first year of university due to the sudden jump in academic expectations. The University Pathway Program reduces that risk.

By experiencing university-level coursework earlier — within a structured high school setting — students develop:

  • Academic independence
  • Time management skills
  • Critical thinking abilities
  • Confidence in a post-secondary environment

They transition not as beginners — but as prepared learners.

Two Streams. One School. Unlimited University Options.

At Alexander Academy, students are not forced into a single path. They choose the stream that aligns with their goals and timeline — and can move forward with clarity and confidence.

The University Pathway Program is more than a dual credit model.
It is a strategic academic advantage.
